5 Simple Hacks to Stop Feeling Overwhelmed

Do you ever feel like you have a lot to do but not enough time? Your To-Do-list is oozing with tasks you need to do? You just don’t have enough hours in a day. If you’re an entrepreneur you know this very well. With the festive hype storming in, you are already concern if you will be able to do everything before the year ends!

In my personal blog, I talk about this in a more relax way, however here I would like to talk about the more practical hacks for entrepreneurs.

Feeling overwhelmed may lead to other negative feelings that could derive you from being the best and doing the best for your business, like anxiety, increase your stress level and worrying that could lead to even more serious mental illness.

There are ways to stop feeling overwhelmed and manage your mental health.

If you have not read my post Managing Your Time Right yet, I would suggest you visit it.

Some of the great elements I mention in that post could also benefit you in overcoming the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Let get right on with it:

1. Relax – Don’t worry about feeling overwhelmed.

The are different techniques of relaxation, it would be ideal to get a message, however the are other inexpensive methods that you can use like, Mindfulness, yoga and deep breathing.

Deep breathing relaxes your entire body and reduces you heart rate and blood flow. I have personally tried this also known as the diaphragmatic breathing, it is simple however, really powerful. Deep rest reduces your rate of stress! Great thing about this technique you can do it anywhere.

“… few people are really aware of their thoughts. Their minds run all over the place without their permission, and they go along for the ride unknowingly and without making a choice”- Thomas M. Sterner

2. Write – Journal

Start a writing habit, you might have a lot to do and not enough time. Writing could be a way of destressing, it is an outlet of all the tons of stuff in your head, negative or positive. 10 min at a time will really get the habit going. Writing and capturing all the thoughts and tasks you need to do clears your mind. You can do this on your smartphone, tablet or laptop. I personally like writing it down on a physical book with a real ink filled pen, the is just something beautiful about that.

3. Prioritize your goals well

Set goals, and prioritize your tasks well. Classify them from most important goals in the month and break them down, highlight the important ones you would like to achieve and what will measure those achievement. Check out the Time Management Blog post for a more to-do-list practical help. Break your tasks into small parts, it is really futile to chew a whole elephant at once. Do not try to do it. Take small bits till the whole elephant is done!

4. Take Action

The process is the most important part. Do not dwell on the outcome, fix your mind on the learning process instead. Think of all the lesson and things you could possibly learn by starting that business, by writing that first blog post. Take action, everything else can surely be improved in the process. Do not focus on the outcome more that the learning process – that is were the real success is. Take small actions – make some coffee, write a few sentences, edit those social media post, before you know it you would have made much progress. This is also known as macro action. This will help you overcome procrastination as well.

5. Do Less – there is never enough time

The reality is there is never enough time, and the is possibility that you might not be able to get everything done today. It is alright to not get it all done today. Realize that what matters is not doing a lot of things, but getting what matters most done, to make a great impact in your community, to leave a lasting legacy. Do not get consumed on the now tasks – it probably wont matter in a couple of years to come towards the bigger picture, the vision. Break down the goals to start doing the essential tasks instead.

“True Success Is Not the Result of Luck But, FOCUS Movement towards one’s assignment”- Bishop NS Mpondomse (from his book Releasing Greatness in You)

Make progress. Take action. Celebrate the little accomplishments and milestones, regardless of how small they may seem, they make the next task achievable and the next one and so on.

Take Time away from the business, even if it is couple of minutes. This will clear your perspective and hopefully you will realize that the tasks might not be so gigantic afterall.

It can be easy to feel overwhelmed as an entrepreneur, due to the many hats you need to wear all in a day but, these simple strategies can really help in reducing this feeling. It has great power to help you clear your mind.
