DEVELOPING YOUR CHARACTER

Updated: Jul 22, 2020

Just recently, my Facebook Messenger got hacked! That was exhausting!

One night, I go to bed after a long day, weekend, a month to be exact. I was going on my internet/social media detox, then BOOM I start getting calls and text messages from people letting me know they receiving inappropriate videos and links. Weird how the first two text messages were from my leaders. I had a slight panic when I got messages from them.

After watering flames and fumes settled, I got thinking; the text messages and calls I received were mostly and firstly from people I look up to, my leaders and friends, who thought that the link/video were “beside me!” Doesn’t that make you think that I might be on the right cause of character building…? that is what I thought lol.

I’m a blogger and this is like an open journal of my life. You know I’m going to talk about it! Here we go! Let us talk about developing our character that we may reflect God in our worlds. Five things I believe helped develop and build my character in a positive way.

“The evidence of life is growth” you need to build and develop your character let us all work together to actively build our character with the assistance of Holy Spirit.

Five Things That Helped Develop My Character:

1. Be Humble

Humility is the best character trait any person could have! There, I said it. The Lord lifts up the humble (Psalms 147:6). The is nothing worse than working with someone who has pride (there might be worse people). I’ve been there and God humbled me. Need I tell you it was a horrible experience. I’m glad that part of my life happened. I’m now an advocate of humility lol.

2. Live your principles and values

If you do not know your principles and values yet, I’m concerned. Not all is lost , you can find out and develop your values by studying the Word of God and spending time in prayer. The Holy Spirit will reveal this to you. So, my second point is living it out, whether yours is “do the right thing”, “respect others” or “love others” living by your principles will make decision making easier!

3. Be Intentional

Saying something and doing it is not the same. Be intentional about developing a good noble character, integrity does not happen by chance. What you are today is the result of your thoughts and habits. Remember, check your habits and be sure to see if they are building the good traits.

4. Be Accountable

Surround yourself with people who will hold you accountable. Personally, people who hold me accountable do not even tell me they hold me account, weird right? No! That is because, I just know it in my head and spirit. I need to do right, someone is watching me and looks up to me. Let me not fool you I only realised this just recently, that certain people look up to me, I WAS SHOCKED. So, hold yourself accountable. Lose the pride and let us other push you to high character.

5. Practice Self Discipline

The hardest! Yet we are giving this by our Father. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” 2 Timothy 1:7

Being of good character takes the ability to do what is right even when it seems hard to.

Practicing these five steps to build your character strong. Continually yelding your self in prayer. God is able to refine your character. People will remember you, your virtues when things seem off, just like what happened a few days ago.
